The Birth of wrenn

Young boy holds his new baby brother. His mother looks at them from the side. Dad holds them both. Brother gazes down at his new brother.

In the middle of the night in November, I loaded up my coffee cup and drove 1.5 hours out to Monte Rio, California to be with this amazing family as they welcomed their second baby. And surprise! I got pulled over for speeding on the way- just a few miles over the speed limit so I’m pretty sure they were just checking for drunk drivers. Scared the crap out of me but it was 150% worth it. I was on my way to document my first birth and bear witness to the arrival of a new little dude!

When I arrived at their home, Jenna was laboring in her bedroom, which was all decked out with fairy lights and gorgeous patterns galore. Birth affirmations were strung along the wall. About-to-be-big-brother Sage, welcomed me with Halloween candy and lots of energy at 3:30am. He was ready to party.

After another 6 hours, Wrenn came into our world right at home with his loving family and midwives there to welcome him. I still can’t believe I got to be there. I got to document a fierce, amazing woman use every ounce of her being to bring her baby into this world. I got to document her husband, her partner, support her in every way he could, ready to do anything, big or small to be that rock. I got to document a pair of midwives work magically, strongly, calmly, to assist the mama in every way possible. I got to document a little boy become a big brother, his life changed forever, his best buddy brought into his life. And then I got to document this little guy enter the world. I got to see love and light surround him from the moment he got here.

Feeling really dang grateful. Join me in welcoming Wrenn into this world.
